#71: A Tribute to Shindo Kaneto, Auteur
Greetings Monsters,
With this episode, Carol Borden from The Cultural Gutter returns to the resort to help me pay tribute to the incredible Japanese director and writer Shindo Kaneto by discussing his considerable legacy and impact.
Kaneto not only helped shape the filmscape, but he also supplied the horror genre with two successful films that demonstrate how horror can be artistically vital and relevant. We here at the Monster Island Resort salute you, Shindo Kaneto!

Also in this episode, Strange Jason from 6′+ Podcast and Gravediggers Local 16 has joined Monster Island Resort as official DJ! Expect him to join the show to regularly spin spooky sounds from monstrous musicians! We are very excited to have him around!
Also of note, I have radically changed the episode numbers, since Storytime Edition has been absorbed into the show at large. I decided this was less confusing for listeners and for the iTunes list. I hope that doesn’t cause further confusion. NOW ON TO THE SHOW!

My favorite part about being a Horror fan is the realization that no matter how many films you’ve seen, you still haven’t even scratched the surface. Love Onibaba but still need to get back to Kuroneko, I appreciate the thoughtful deconstruction, Miguel and Carol! But damn Netflix for taking the Criterion films off of instant…
