#92 Monster Episode: The Gillman from Creature from the Black Lagoon!
Once again, Famous Monsters of Filmland and Fangoria scribe Justin Beahm joins me to discuss today’s focus monster–The Gillman from the legendary Creature from the Black Lagoon films from Universal Studios. The Gillman is one of my favorite movie monsters for a number of reasons, and Justin joins me to look at those reasons a little more in depth. He has written an article looking at the series that will be available in the February issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland #266. If you want to get the absolutely brilliant Creature from the Black Lagoon variant cover, you can preorder that issue HERE.
Take a look at that beauty!
Anyway, on to the episode! Please enjoy and remember to follow us on Twitter @MonsterResort and @justinbeahm!

There is a sort of epilogue to the trilogy in comic form in Lilli Carre’s excellent, The Lagoon. It has much of the same sense of unbridgeable distance and tragedy. And, there’s also not so much a trilogy, but a parallel story in Jonathan Case’s Dear Creature, in which a mutant sea creature learns to read and speak by finding pages of Shakespeare in a bottle. I like both these stories because they focus so much on what I often do, that the creature is so much about betrayal and cruelty and, in its way, love. Or at least, both books transform the fear that was created by threatening white womanhood into something deeper.
Anyway, I think you would like both these books and thank you for a fascinating discussion.
